What a difference eyebrows make

Actual conversation with my Microblading Royal Artist, Nevena in 2016:

First appointment:

me: “I don’t want anything too crazy, just fill in my existing line and cover my scar”

Nevena: “Don’t worry, I’ll give you a natural look”

me: “But I want to look NAAAATURAL!!! NAAAAATURAL!!”

Nevena: “I can sense that you’re a little nervous, this is my process…think about it and call me if you have any questions and when you’re ready to book”

Second appointment (1.5 years later)

me: Bigger, thicker, BOLDER!

My relationship with my eyebrows has been an evolving journey…

I never really thought much about what my eyebrows did for my face in my over-plucking days. Flash forward to my early 40’s, and I am all for framing/enhancing/highlighting great eyebrows can achieve. If the beauty industry has taught us anything recently, it is that well-shaped, well-groomed eyebrows can help us achieve a polished look – even without any make-up on.

There are so many options out there when it comes get getting a great brow. My research lead me to the idea of microblading, but as you can see from my first consultation with Nevena I was super nervous about the process initially (I mean, we are talking about imprinting something on my face here).  I now have no idea how I lived without my well-shaped brows. Nevena gave me very natural, yet bold brow that I feel great about without feeling “overdone”.

In case you are new to this beauty treatment, microblading is a form of semi-permanent tattoo that involves using tiny needles (instead of a tattoo gun) that make up a small blade to help deposit pigment under your skin. Each hair is drawn on to create the most natural look possible. It does hurt a little (how did I know that was your next question?), but Nevena is so gentle and uses a numbing cream if necessary.  I actually fall asleep during the process.

Microblading has exploded since I first got my eyebrows done 4 years ago. You can now find a microblading artist in almost all beauty salons, and even at your local mall. I caution you, however, that not all microblading artists are created equal. I did a lot of research when choosing Nevena. Her background in medical aesthetics, previous work, attention to detail and patience with me are what made me feel very comfortable. I asked many questions, and wanted to see many before and after photos (she even showed me photos of faded eyebrows so I could see how natural they would look even as they faded).

Before diving in to the procedure, Nevena drew in my eye brows with make-up to ensure I was comfortable with the shape before she started with the microblading. I was able to see the result before committing.

I have gone back a third time to get my eyebrows “re-filled”, and this time Nevena suggested we try shading/powder brows. Since she is always very well trained and keeping up with the latest, I trusted her FULLY. Shading is a semi-permanent technique that involves using a tattoo machine with a single, flexible needle. It achieves a more “powdered” make-up look as opposed to the individual hair strokes I had before. I results were just as fabulous as the first day I went to see her 4.5 years ago.

It’s important to note that even before Covid, Nevena’s practice was always spotless and disinfected. I felt completely at east in her care. She followed all guidelines and restrictions (it’s no surprises that you have to keep your mask on during the procedure). Check out the “during” and “after” shading photos below!

Since meeting Nevena, she has done the eyebrows of many of my clients, friends and followers, and they have all fallen in love with their results. If you are considering getting microblading done, I advise you to DO YOUR RESEARCH first, and consult. Nevena totally put me at ease while providing amazing results, and your eyebrow artist should too.

If your interest in microblading goes beyond getting your own brows done, Nevena now offers her own training and certification program. Nevena’s 3-day training provides participants with theoretical and practical knowledge of the microblading procedure. Most importantly, her certification training provides an individual supervised hands-on practice – crucial for the development of microblading skills.

Love my new thicker, bolder, well-shaped brows
